Ambition is a terrible

Ambition is a terrible thing. In an easier world, we would be lucky enough to ignore success, do what we love, and find ourselves prosperous anyway. Ambition, on the other hand, forces us to constantly hunt out success in whatever ways necessary.

If you live in

If you live in San Francisco or New York or some other city lucky enough to be the mass target of underwear ads, you have probably seen Travis. Travis -- who has no last name -- is a model for Calvin Klein. Travis is, er, gifted. (And we wish he would put some pants on, for crying out loud, but that's beside the point here.)

SFGate has the scoop on Travis' recent appearance at Macy's Union Square. The article has my favorite quote of the week:

Tim Teehan, 37, a San Francisco photo stylist, said he first started wearing Calvin Klein underwear at age 18. He prefers tightie-whities, he added. "I bought the new pair as soon as I saw the new ads with Travis. I thought, 'Amazing, fresh, hot.'"

I've had fresh underwear. But amazing and hot? That's quite impressive. I imagine I will never be a true artist until I learn to have thoughts like that.

G's plane lands in

G's plane lands in about two hours. It's going to be a good weekend. Guess I should hurry up and clean this place, though, so that I can hide my true slovenliness.

Yes, I too have

Yes, I too have been searched on each of my 5 flights since September 11th. If it's truly random, then Jish and I need to head to Vegas to place some bets, because apparently we're the luckiest brown guys alive.

At Boston's Logan airport, where security is said to be the tightest in the country, I was searched three times. So was the other Indian guy in line behind me. But not the European before me.

Understand this: Just because racial profiling is economical doesn't make it right. Search everyone. I'm afraid of terrorists as much as the next person in line. Search everyone, and do it right.

A jet split up

A jet split up in the air and crashed in a New York neighborhood. New anthrax reports keep coming in. Global financial markets are still falling. The Northern Alliance shot a wounded Taliban soldier at point-blank range and then looted the bodies of others.

Outside the grocery store tonight, I gave the homeless woman a loaf of bread, and then stood around, unsure of what else to do with myself.

At least they're playing music again in Mazar-e Sharif for the first time since the Taliban imposed a ban earlier this year.

And... we're back.

And... we're back.
